Youth readership promotion

We believe that encouraging young people to read is chief among our responsibilities. Along with several local partners, we have been actively supporting the publishing industry by sponsoring literary prizes, events and activities since 2007.

Marquis has partnered with the Quebec Association of French Teachers (AQPF) and the National Association of Book Publishers (ANEL) to award five prizes, one in each of the five categories of children’s literature.

In addition to making a financial contribution, Marquis also creates, prints and distributes posters for the French teachers' literary awards during the AQPF conference.

We recognize that it is the genius of authors who create compelling stories that fuel young people’s love of books.

And so every year, we award grants to the creators of the three books that top CJ's honour roll for being young readers' favourites.

We have been sponsoring the Quebec Booksellers Association (ALQ) youth prize for the past four years and provide the contest organizers with free print promotional materials.

In addition, we are involved in printing 16,000 activity workbooks that are then distributed in schools across Quebec.

Promoting Children's Literature across Canada

Since 2020, Marquis has also been sponsoring the Canadian Children’s Book Week. We are very proud of the new relationship we are building with the Canadian Children's Book Centre (CCBC), a national, not-for-profit organization dedicated to encouraging, promoting and supporting the reading, writing, illustrating and publishing of Canadian books for young readers.

Thanks to this partnership, Marquis is changing the lives of young readers across Canada. The Canadian Children’s Book Week is integral to the development of the literary arts as it instills a love of reading in children and teens. By connecting Canadian authors, illustrators and storytellers with over 25,000 children each year through readings and workshops held in schools, libraries, community centres and bookstores across the country, the CCBC introduces children to both quality Canadian books and their talented creators.

Meeting an author, illustrator or storyteller can encourage children to create their own stories and provide them with an avenue to explore their own creativity. Moreover, the Book Week allows creators to hone their presentation skills and reach new audiences in communities outside of their home province or territory. Marquis is therefore helping Canadian authors and illustrators reach young readers nationwide.
