Lay flat is a specialized bookbinding method where the cover is glued to the front and back pages of the book block, allowing the spine to float independently of the book cover. This enables the book to lay flat when open without the reader having to force the pages down.
Our standard hardcover product offering. The book block spine is ground down and glued to the case.
The signatures of the book are folded and stitched through the fold. They are then sewn and glued together at the spine to form a text block that can open completely flat. This is one of the most durable binding methods available.
Perfect binding is commonly used for a variety of applications including trade books, graphic novels, travel guides, music books, reference materials, catalogues, manuals, financial publications and scientific journals.
A very thin board or cardstock is used for the case, resulting in a more flexible book and cover. This is often combined with smyth sewn for lay flat functionality.
Staples are inserted into the spine to bind the leaves together.
Mechanical binding allows the book to open completely flat. We offer three options: twin loop wire-O, plastic coil and concealed wire-O.
